Kayakoy
Kayakoy Kayavillage is 13 km to Fethiye it is a
prominent settlement dating back to antique Karmylasos
where different cultures assimilate with each other. According to some
sources, there are 3000 or 3500 houses. The stone houses, Two Churches, one
Schools, fifteen chapels six workshops and all other building constructed
with Typical Mediterranean style without overshadowing each other and the
narrow streets are representative of an
architectural
laboratory..You can still see many of them as a ruins remaining from these
days, They grew their food on the fields in front of Kayakoy. People of
Kayakoy also formed commercial connections traveling to Greek islands. And
also had family relations on these islands.
Following
the mutual agreements made with the Greek after the 1st World
war, some settled down on Greek islands where they had families while some
settled down on Greece around Selanik and Turkish people in selanik
However ,because the Turkish immigrants could not adjust themselves to the
existing life-style here ,the village assumed the appearance of a ghost town
.The Kaya Village is renowned for the Kaya Rugs woven with root dies and
original designs. It is also famous for its agricultural products such as
figs, chickpeas, melons and pomegranates.
In kayakoy there are some
restaurants and Kebab and wine houses and art camp which called Kaya Art
camp in the village. The Gemiler koyu and Afkule there is other attractive
features of the Kayakoy.
